Reddit.com is a rare website that we visit everyday, many times a day. We love Reddit alien (mascot) so much. His name is Snoo and he is so cute. You can find general FAQs about Snoo here. One day we had this crazy idea to make this alien Desi style using Batik printing technique. And after printing and treating it, we realized it looked so cute. So we had to share it with you. We are sharing a step-by-step tutorial on how to make a Reddit 404 pillow cover.

This is a DIY tutorial and should not be used for commercial purpose. After reading this tutorial, sharing your own version Reddit Snoo 404 pillow cover  is most welcome. We have made this pillow cover using Batik printing technique and we have tried to cover all steps possible. Please feel to suggest and edit if you think we've missed something. Please don't hesitate to share another idea, we would love to publish your idea here.

Step1: Collect the required stuff

You will need following:
  • A Reddit 404 image, printed on an A4 sheet
  • A thick cotton cloth in 14x14 inch size. A matching thin cloth for lining of the same size. 2 pieces of 14x17 inches size for making envelope style closing. ( we’ve used an Organic muslin fabric that is very thick)
  • A carbon sheet (tracing paper) and a pencil to transfer the image on to the cloth
  • Bees wax, a bowl to melt the wax and a paint brush to apply wax on the cloth
  • Color of your choice. You can use more than one color. We’ve used only one color - Denim Blue.
  • Heater to melt the wax and lot of open space for ventilation (this is very important to avoid chocking)
  • Ironing board and iron
  • Sewing machine and a matching thread.

My Hand Block Printing Adventures - 101

I have been printing a lot lately. For me making crafts, block printing and creating something beautiful is more than just a hobby. For me it is mediation and I feel so relaxed and energetic after making something related fabrics and printing. I have been printing for couple of days now. I have made many beautiful fabrics and garments for kids in the extended family. Here are few of my new creations:
The first pattern that I made was a tree in Spring Green color
And actually instead of printing it over a piece of fabric, I printed it on a cloth bag made of Muslin fabric

This is how I started - a couple of wooden stamps, dye color and lots of hope to create something new

This is another Green pattern that I have made

I have posted more such images on my Facebook and these available for purchase on my website: www.desicraftshop.com

You can buy these favor bags in larger quantity just by placing a custom order request to me. I am available to take orders through Facebook and website contact page :)

Travel Pouches, Coin Purses, Bags ... A New Range of Tribal HandiCrafts

At DesiCrafts, we create, collect and appreciate. It was the month of February, when we visited Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab and many other beautiful parts of India. During our visit to villages in different places, we found some really interesting handmade craft items. At many places, seeing people working was so delightful and motivating that we couldn't stop ourselves and extended our stay just to learn how these crafts are made. We also bought beautiful handmade items directly from local Non-Government Organizations and self help groups (NGOs) and also from the artisan families. In next few posts, we'll be posting pictures and write-up about new collection of handicraft items that we have collected from different parts of India this month.

We have a whole new lot of beautiful tribal goodies from Madhya Pradesh, India. You can find these beautiful handcrafted coin purses, travel pouches and more at our website: www.desicraftshop.com
